Pretty Interesting

Ron, I was actually thinking of your fondness for interesting and perhaps enlightening books on the brain and mental illness when I started researching botanicals that might inhibit protein kinase C.

Of course there's plenty of information on the connection at PubMed and Google. Here's an intro:

I thought this book would be of value. It's sure to open up new avenues of thought and connections:

Read the overview and you'll see what I mean ;)

This is so fun. Check out this quote I just dug up from a Google search:

"...feverfew's ability to inhibit the influx of calcium into cells (calcium channel blocking activity) or its ability to inhibit protein kinase C..."

"...Other researchers believe that feverfew's effect on inhibiting platelet granule secretion is due to its inactivation of protein kinase C..."

This is really fun. However, it really needs to be done methodically and systematically.

I'd like to clarify that Feverfew was just an example. It has its share of side effects and doesn't look to be very helpful for bipolar disorder by its documented effects. Its unwise to just look at 1 variable, but its a starting point.
