I am so much better ,just wonderfull ,no panic!

Posted by Ron Jones on December 6, 2003, at 20:01:28

I went to the drug board and just thanked GOD that I did not need to take these drugs.I have never used them.My research on alternative supplements has payed off for me.I also did research on mental illness and how it effects the brain.I now so much but unless you are a trained neuroscientist I do not think you could understand it all.You have to know a lot of things about many diffrent areas of research. It has really helped .Inositol, fish oil and blueberry leaf extract are the best things I know of for agoraphobia. It is just a great thing to feel sane .I read on boards, for agoraphobia, about people having these awfull symptoms of agoraphobia.I want to help them but it is useless. So ,I am just not going to try anymore. No one will read The Bipolar Child. The best book ever written on mental illness. You would learn so much from it.Are you getting any better?Does it get better or worse with time?I am getting better everyday.I am really getting better not just doped up on drugs ,if you know what I mean.I do not know if you can be 100% cured but being free of panic attacks is ok with me.also having 99% of the symptoms of agoraphobia gone without drugs is great. It is just very strange to be so much better.I was just totally nuts ,like a lot of people still are.It was a living hell.I do not want to be there ever again.Nothing can take the place of just feeling normal. When people take drugs it is a false kind of feeling.I did take some xanax one time and the panic stoped but I WAS TOTALLY SPACED OUT. Then when it wore off ,the panic just came back worse than ever.I did not want this.I want nothing that screws with my brain chemistry.Fish oil works on the second messenger system not your brain chemistry.I belive that ssri drugs really screw up your brain cells. The illness comes back within 6 mo.s to a year worse than ever.It does nothing to cure you.It does not even work on the brain defect that is causeing the mental illness.St. Johns Wart is no better . They gave a monkey an ssri drug and it destroyed 60% of his serotonin receptors! I am really getting better ,I am not just doped up on xanax. This is what I want.

Ron,

I am very glad you are doing so well. I use a combination of conventional medical approaches and alternative approaches and that's what's working for me..... right now. So, yes, some of us ARE getting better with a number of different approaches.
I do not believe it will ever be a "one size fits all". We are all unique.
The med board is a slanted view and most of the postings are by individuals who have difficulties with their meds. There are countless people living fulfilling and successful lives using (and because of) the very meds that are discussed there.
I am much better, but I know, from the experiences of my entire life: there are good and bad times. This has been true whether I was medicated, supplimenting, both or doing neither.
I hope your success continues.
Kelly

Ron, did you check out the book I posted above? I thought it might offer you some more leads.

I wanna be normal

Hi, Ron.

It's been about 3 months that I've been off ssri's. I simply couldn't take them...I had been taking them for a year, and I felt like I'm not myself anymore, so I quit. Also, I don't go to see the psychiatrist. He's an asshole...he discouraged me by saying that he hasn't had any patient who hasn't been cured by him, and said he feels uncomfortable with me searching on the internet about my symptoms...he almost hopes to worship him or something.....

Now, I'm trying to cure myself with alternative medicines. My main problem is anxiety, especially social anxiety. I'm taking fish oil, calcium/magnesium, vitamin B/C at the moment. I already have finished 240 capsules of Fish oil, so I guess it's not working for me. Maybe too little dosage?(each capsule contains 180 of EPA, and I've been taking 6-8 capsules per day. that's enough dosage, isn't it?)

Magnesium...it's been only a few days since I started taking it so I'll see how it goes. I'm taking about 400mg of Mg per day.

What I want to ask you is, what else can I try to alleviate my problem? Should I try Inositol and blueberry leaf extract that you have mentioned? I have a bottle of Inositol; each tablet is 250mg, but as I read, I believe Inositol must be in very high dosage to be effective. Also, tell me about blueberry leaf extract...like what is in it...how effective it is...

Hey, I thought I'd chime in. I just learned about a new herb called Gotu Kola that has anti-anxiety, calming, and anti-stress properties amongst other effects. Another Ayurvedic herb worth looking into is Ashwaganda.

Ashwagandha is a powerful herb, IMHO. Unfortunately, I had a paradoxical response to it. Par for the course, unfortunately. I have bottles of it, unopened....

Larry, what was paradoxical about your response?

It was supposed to help me sleep better, but it made my insomnia worse. I couldn't keep taking it.

The plant is called Withania somniferum, but it didn't somni my ferum very good at all.

Larry,

Somni my ferum.

That's pretty witty, hope that's a sign you're feeling well.

Best,

Matt

Ron, This is an HRC formula for anxiety. It is based on correcting the underlying physical deficiencies in the system to restore "normal" chemistry and nutritional levels.

100 mg GABA, 2 caps, 4xdaily
100 mg 5-htp 1 cap, 3xdaily
Inosital Powder, 4 grams with each meal
200 mcg Chromium picolinate 1 cap daily
500 mg Niacinamide, 1 cap 3xdaily
675 mg Ester-C vitamin C, 1 cap 3xdaily
250 mg B6, 1 cap 3xdaily
200 IU Vitamin E, 1 cap 3xdaily
25 mg Zinc Picolinate, 1 cap 3xdaily

Hope this helps.

By HRC, do you mean Health Recovery Center in Minneapolis? If so, beware concerning some of those items. A book by HRC warns against 5-HTP. (You can find information elsewhere on Web stating that 5-HTP may cause ventricular problems because of serotonin this side of the blood brain barrier.) I believe HRC uses tryptophan at HRC--not 5-HTP; at least HRC did last spring 2003. GABA does not cross the blood brain barrier.
