Monsieur Hoover....

Posted by KellyD on December 7, 2003, at 19:32:57

Hi Bomb diggity,

Hope things are going, well, as well as can be expected. A question, if you would like to induldge me, if not, no problem either....

If I'm using Fish Oil at 3 gms per day and EPO at 3 gms per day, am I reasonably OK re: triglycerides, platelet coagulation issues and the like?
I guess, in other words, is it ok with a low risk profile if both are used?

By the way, things are pretty good in my corner of the world.

Thank for your brain (and good soul), as always.

Your adoring,
Kelly

Oh, I like indulgence....naughty girl.

The concerns raised re: coagulation are a total misinterpretation, IMHO. Let me explain.

What is taken as normal today is not. Hypercoagulabilty is common....so common that it has taken on the conceptualization as normal. It is not. Most people are so deficient in omega-3 fatty acids that their blood-clotting is hypersensitive. Just consider how many people are put on so-called "blood thinners". Have you ever heard of anyone being put on "blood thickeners"?

If your body gets enough omega-3 fatty acids, it will become less likely to form clots, yes, but only to the point where normal homeostasis is restored....you can't go so far as to make your blood unable to clot. That just won't happen. It gets "fixed", made normal, but not made unhealthy. If, and only if, you are taking drugs that block clot formation (coumadin et al) is clotting a health issue when supplementing with fish oil.....the coumadin or whatever dose needs to be adjusted.

Triglyceride levels should be lower with fish oil. HDL/LDL cholesterol ratios should shift towards HDL (which you want to have happen). Atherosclerosis should actually reverse itself.

The combination of fish oil and EPO should also be very anit-inflammatory, inhibiting cytokine formation, and reducing autoimmune activation.

All good things.

> I guess, in other words, is it ok with a low risk profile if both are used?

I highly recommend it, no matter the risk profile.

> By the way, things are pretty good in my corner of the world.

I'm a happy for you.
