Yerba Mate... and other alternative stimulants

Posted by MaTurtle on December 16, 2003, at 17:55:57

I've been drinking yerba mate for a couple of years now. I've found it to be incredibly useful to me in depression and fatigue. I would love to hear anyone else's experiences with yerba mate or any other useful "alternative" stimulants, maybe this thread can be of use to people looking for alternative ways to stimulate themselves besides amphetamines or other a-typical stimulant pharms. Anyway, yerba mate can give me the ability to concentrate much better, and the endurance to get through the day much more easily if I feel fatigued. I don't know what is in yerba mate that is so stimulating, but it sure does the trick.
------------
also don't believe the claims that yerba mate does not have caffiene in it, becasue it has been proven that it does have caffiene and not the so called "mateiene" in it, the claims that mateiene is a stereo-isomer has been disproven and probobly such claims are just to get you to buy the product. However the amount of caffiene in yerba mate is very small comapred even to green tea, and yet still very stimulating (at least to me). Too much yerba mate though will overstimulate me after the initial smooth muscle relaxation. However you may not be stimulated by yerba mate, there is no miracle stimulant that works for everybody, you must find what is right for your own balance of body and mind. My reaction to yerba mate is just that, only my reaction your milage may vary. I am just suggesting that if you have not tried yerba mate and want some extra energy or want to replace coffee with something more healthy, give it a try. It may or may not work for you, and you will not know unless you try it... for more information goto http://www.rain-tree.com/yerbamate.htm ---> it has the best non-bias info on yerba that I have ever found on the internet. I appreciate anybodys and everyones feedback.

I think Yerba Mate is pretty incredible. Thank you for reminding me to get some, I'd actually forgotten about it. I remember it had the stimulating effects of coffee, but it helped me concentrate too, something that seems to vanish with the depression. I never did learn to like the taste though, I'd make it and then let it get cold so I could drink it really fast.
