Panick Attacks, Vertigo and anxiety

Posted by VZT on January 8, 2004, at 3:21:46

I wondered if anyone had had ny similar experiences as this and if they know of any supplements, therapies or procedures that can help. My problems began over a month ago with a sensation of movement (Often spinning or swaying) in the back of my head (Vertigo?). This was accompanied by feelings of anxiety and insomnia. Over the next month the vertigo got worse, I became agitated all the time, started having panick attacks and several other symptoms including poor memory, spaced feelings, feelings of un-reality, numb face and headaches and sore neck. I have been to the docs and told I have labyrinthitis and given Stemetil to control the vertigo which does work to some degree.. However, my anxiety is still really bad and the symptoms get worse throughout the day. In the morning I can feel fine but by the evening I'm a complete mess. I have wondered if GABA may help to control the anxiety but I believe the anxiety is a symptom of the illness and not that the anxiety is causing the illness (Although there could be a feedback mechanism going on) At the worst I was completely bed ridden and although I am slightly better now I have still not recovered enough to return to work or be left on my own at night. Any similar stories, advice or recomendations would be greately recieved.

Well, my anxiety issue makes me also sometimes feel like I have vertigo, and gives me panic attacks. I realized I tighten my body alot when I'm stressed - which causes weird symptoms, especially in the upper body. Also, I realized I clench my teeth when I sleep - so, you may want to get checked for TMJ (which can also give you vertigo).
Try taking the amino acid L-Theanine for anxiety. Make sure you have plenty of good vitamins (especially b complex) in your system - and avoid stimulants (sugar, coffee, white bread...). You don't want anything that's gonna raise your blood sugar/adrenaline too much. If you feel dizzy, you could try to take bonine (it's dramamine without the drowziness). Maybe you could take half and see if it works okay for you.
I am working with a hypnotist, which seems to relive some of the panic/anxiety. You may want to look down that avenue. Just be sure to find someone really well-qualified with lots of experience.
Best of luck to you.

Do you have any ringing noises or other sounds in your ear?

I read somewhere recently about this condition that caused vertigo and may also cause other things as well.... or perhaps your anxiety just got a lot worse because of it.

Just a guess.
