Inositol - whats the deal?

Posted by Althea8869 on February 27, 2004, at 19:55:03

Just wanted to post on something I read - an article from Robert Belmaker (Psychiatry Chair-Ben Gurion Hospital-Israel) who apparently has studied Inositol extensively writes that you need to ingest >20grams of the powdered form(dissolved in juice or whatever) for it to have any chance of getting to the brain and affect a response for mood disorders. He goes on to say, however, that in his clinical research on depression, this regimen produced remission levels equal to or superior to SSRI's and TCA's. (MAOI's were apparently not studied) Patients taking this dosage saw 'a marked improvement in mood', usually after 3-4 weeks, in some cases much sooner. Unfortunately there appears to be no synergism with other AD's.

So My questions is - has anybody ever tried taking this much inositol with success or any other dosage for that matter? I seem to recall from this board that most people said they didnt notice any change. Id be curious to know what dosage they were taking.

Thanks in advance.

i tried it at 12grams per day and liked it

joebob - i read this off a xerox that someone gave me and unfortunately the bottom of the pages kinf of blurry, but it seems to say 'Townsend Lettter....'. Thats the best I can do unfortunately, in addition to what I originally posted.

I think im going to give it a try, the only problem is that one months supply of this stuff is going to run a couple hundred bucks it looks like. Do you know of any better place to get it cheaper?

Thanks in advance.

and you could have someone pick up what you want and send it to you

let me think about it, see what i can do and send me and email address or phone number for someone cool who you trust, brother or friend

conscious community needs to be created and nurtured for the benefit of each and every one

best,
joebob
