Anything Out There To Help Stop Using Pot?

Posted by Zee on February 24, 2004, at 15:14:08

I have a friend who's been smoking pot for 5 years and he really wants to stop. I'm wondering if there's something out there that could help him stop or help with withdrawals? It would also have to be save to use with Prozac. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I am not really sure that there is anything that he could take to help him quit. As far as withdrawals, honestly I don't think he will have them. Myself and a family memeber are both daily smokers and have been for over 10 years (him 20+ years).

We both have to quit periodically and neither one of us really has trouble with it and we don't have withdrawals from it. The only thing is maybe craving it a little or a little harder to fall asleep for the first days, but other than that it isn't physically addictive for the most part IMO like cigarettes are.

I personally wouldn't take an antidepressant like an SSRI just to try to quit smoking pot, but that is just me and I would just quit cold turkey (I know it is a little difficult, but it really isn't that hard). I know Wellbutrin is used for quitting smoking, so maybe that might be something to look into if you really think he needs it. Best of luck

I just heard a news report today that there is a new drug (romitadol or something I can't remember) that is supposed to be an appetite supressant as well as a quitting aid for both tobacco and pot. A little surfing on the AP news reports should yield you the answer.
