Testosterone for Women

Posted by Shyla on April 1, 2004, at 14:48:06

Have any of the women here tried a testosterone cream to help with lack of libido caused by anti-depressents? If so, has it worked for you? Replies will be appreciated.

p.s. I hope this is in the right category Dr. Bob. :o)

Thanks for trying, and I'm sorry it's so complicated, but I wouldn't consider testosterone an alternative treatment, so I'd like to redirect this thread to (just plain) Psycho-Babble. Here's a link:

Was on effexor for about a year and my ob gave me some to try. While it makes it slightly easier to achieve satisfaction (not enough to make it a cure) the intensity of the "satisfaction" was pretty darn good. There are some unpleasant side effects that your doc will probably tell you about though.

Thanks Cherylann. Would you mind elaborating on the unpleasant side effects? Do you still use the cream? If not, why? Thanks.

It takes about a week for the cream to start working. Which wouldn't be so bad, except (at least these were the directions my doc gave me) you have to apply it to the clitoral area twice daily for 20 minutes each time.
I found that 20 minutes was a little long and 10 minutes did just fine. I have heard others use it on the inner thighs and if I decide to try it again, I'll do that.
The only real unpleasant side effect was odor. It didn't happen right away, but gradually over time. I just couldn't take it. Maybe this could be eliminated by using the inner thighs? Other than that, my skin was a little oily, which was ok by me.
Hope this helps, like I said it did help and everyone is different. You might want to give it a try.

This is the end of the thread.
