Panic attack from homeopathy?

Posted by Chris O on April 1, 2004, at 1:41:27

I just had a horrible reaction to, I think, a homeopathic remedy. A naturalist in San Diego (Dr. Mark Stengler) prescribed it to me. On the bottle it says, "serotonin." I took one half droperful and within an hour I was feeling the racing heart, the suffocation, just like horrible, like I might just fall down on the ground and be incapacitated. Is such a thing possible from a homeopathic remedy? It's so frustrating.... I've tried just about every non-pharmaceutical supplement out there for my anxiety with not much luck. This (naturopath/homeopathy) was going to be my last option before just using SSRIs indefinitely. Has anyone here had a homeopathic-induced panic attack, or any other kind of bad reaction to homeopathy?

Thanks,
Chris

Joebob:

Thanks for the reply. Yes, this was not a "constitutional." It was temporary until he got the results of my saliva test back. But, as for the whole "constitutional" thing, seems very non-scientific and hokey-pokey to me. Like, I know this was an improvement on other 18th century medical practices (blood-letting, etc.), but, reading about homeopathy...I just don't know. However, if it works, and it's non-toxic, so be it.

What specific documented results did you get from homeopathy? I'd be curious to know. I'd also be curious to know if homoepathy alone yielded results for you, or you had to use it in conjunction with other things.

to the homeopathy....
my wife and 5 year old son use nothing else....
although i can mention some specific phyiscal results, the more important and profound changes that i observe are emotional and psychological...
as for my kid, we started when he was 2.5 yrs and i can tell you there is no placebo effect at that age, even his nanny who no habla englais noticed the changes....

electricity was and in some ways still is hocus pocus, but it turns on the lights...

do a google on homeopathy and you will find some recent research that supports the theory in the very least...

as a final note, it's all about the homeopath and his/her ability to find the right remedy...

best,

Another homeopathy question

I'm starting to think that some of the health problems I've been experiencing for 2-3 years could be adrenal-related, especially as I normally feel temporarily better after an adrenal stimulant (i.e., coffee).

Two years ago, before I had a migraine diagnosis, I visited a local naturopath. But I stopped going due to the cost (I was poor at the time), and because I didn't have faith in homeopathy. Especially as I wasn't willing to quit caffeine at the time, and it can undo the effects.

However, conventional medicine hasn't really helped me to heal. I'd like to try again. Do you think I should give it a shot? And, would the same homeopath be mad that I left treatment the first time?

if your naturopath is mad at you he's a jerk and you should look elsewhere......
a naturopath is not the same as a homeopath....
as far as caffeine goes, switch to green tea, and use it as strong as you need it, it will not antidote a correct constitutional remedy....
as far as adrenals go the chinese are ahead of the pack, look for a good chinese herbalist

But don't naturopaths study homeopathy?

I know a good acupuncturist who studied in China and has tried to give me herbs before, which I've turned down. Maybe I should talk to her?

naturopaths may have some training in homeopathy » bookgurl99
