Hi Folks,
I'm going to take a urine test (ordered by naturopath) from NeuroScience Labs to measure:
o Serotonin
o Dopamine
o Norepinephrine
o Epinephrine
o GABA
o Histamine
o Phenylethylamine (PEA)If anyone is interested in the results and ongoing treatment I'll be posting updates here.
The idea is to monitor and correct imbalances via precursors, mainly amino acids. Of course, the lab also sells their own products, but no one is obligated to buy their brand.
I was a little leery because my understanding is that brain chemistry testing has been less than accurate up to now. My naturopath said she thinks this particular testing technology has been refined but wasn't sure.
Anyone familiar with this test or have any thoughts about the accuracy of neurotransmitter urine testing, (probably metabolites)?
I'm going to call the company and will thoroughly grill them. Their website (www.neuroscienceinc.com) has some educational and research materials. - BarbaraCat

Hi Barbaracat:
I'd like to find out about this test. Is it very expensive?
Also, how did you locate your naturopath?
Best,
GabaGirl

**I called the local naturopathic college and asked who specialized in fibromyalgia or who was reallllly good. They gave me a list. I also went to www.immunesupport.com website and looked for 'good doctors' in my state and she was on that list. I have fibromyalgia and you most like don't, but fibro is such a tricky condition that any doctor who is considered 'good' in that area has to be very savvy in many specialities, mind and body. You could try contacting Bastyr University in Seattle or the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, OR. Even if you don't live near these schools they may have some advice on finding one near you.

Thanks!
I live on the east coast currently, but will check the resources you suggest. I'm sure we have some good docs around here -- DC metro area -- it's just a matter of locating them!
Thanks again!

If you have Fibromyalgia it may be worth your while to read www.lowdosenaltrexone.org.It isn`t really alternative medicine but rather a small dose of a regular prescription medication called naltrexone taken in a dose of 4.5mg at night It is used in a dose of 50mg daily to block the effects of opiates in addicts. It seems to work as perhaps an immune booster in a small doses for lots of conditions and is probably worth trying.I am a family doctor in Dublin,Ireland, and have put quite a few patients on it recently but it is too soon yet to comment on its value in my practice. However some of the patient reports on the above website are very impressive for a wide range of conditions including cancers and MS.

Hi:I am not diagnosed with fibromyalgia, as yet anyway, but may have CFS as my sister has this diagnosis and I've been experiencing long periods of extreme fatigue for several months in a row now. A nice resource I use for BP, CFS, endometriosis, etc... is http://remedyfind.com
You can review patient ratings and reviews of all different kinds of therapies by condition, including standard meds, nutritional supps, herbs, and alternative therapies such as accupuncture, light therapy, etc..
It also often gives links to clinical trial information when available, and further resources online. I've written back and forth with Brett Hodges who has CFS and who started the site and think he's a really great person.
Anyone visit this site? I've given a few ratings for BP treatments as GabaGirl...
Best,
GG

**Thanks for your reply, Ed. I have some of the 4.5mg naltrexone that I completely forgot about. I took it for a short time a while back and it was probably too soon to tell anything. How long do you estimate taking it before an effect?
I wondered about why an opiate antogonist would be useful for a pain condition and didn't know it could also be an immune booster. I'll definitely take a look at the website.
