TMG: Larry? Anybody

Posted by lotus on August 3, 2004, at 3:22:03

Has anyone here had success treating depression using TMG? I've used Sam-e with success but it got way to expensive, and I've read that TMG raises levels of Sam-e in the body at around 3 grams per day,I've also read that it's good for ocd, which according to Pfeiffer is a result of undermethylation. If anyone has tried this and gotten results I'd like to hear from you. It's a heck of alot cheaper than buying Sam-e.

Larry's on vacation for two weeks but I can tell you that he is a fan of TMG. He has mentioned it in previous posts. I don't remember exactly how much he took or if he got a great antidepressant effect from it. I just know that he prefers it to sam-e (thinks it's a more efficient way to go as well as cheaper) and that he combined it with NADH for motivation. He thought it was a good synergistic combination. Do a search of this site if you want to read all that he (and others) have to say about it.

Hi,

I had some success with L-Theanine i took 2 100 mg tabs a day on an empty stomach and saw a change although it is not a miracle drug it did help me. You can up the dose to 1200 mg if needed very safely as i did then tapered back down. You can get this at a very cheap price if you are lucky enough to have a good all Natural store around and they come in mostly common Mg's of 100mg and 200mg. You can get a bottle of 90 100mg capsules (i can here anyway) for about $11.00. Make sure you read the supplement facts on the back of the bottle to make sure it has the required mg's in it because some companys advertise a good product but when you read the back for facts you may see something different as i have in the past with this product. So i dont babble all day i will give you the link for a little research or just type in L-Theanine in a search engine and you will get tons of hits. http://www.brain.web-us.com/l-theanine_anxiety_reducer.htm
Most of what you will read might mostly talk about anxiety but it helped my depression also. Good luck!

Well, it's such an energizing supplement for me, I think I just forget that I'm depressed. ;-)

TMG is a methyl donor, which along with vitamin B12, are the primary sources for the methylation capacity later provided by SAMe.

Cheaper, and it doesn't increase homocysteine like SAMe does. Quite the contrary, it lowers homocysteine levels.

> I understand that TMG folic acid, and B12 very helpful.

There are two recycling pathways for "spent" or "used up" SAMe. Used SAMe becomes homocysteine, and B12 and folate (as biopterin) contribute to one pathway for homocysteine to become methionine. The other pathway requires TMG. Taking nutrients for both pathways is sensible, because either one may not be working well in depressed individuals.

> Is B6 helpful at raising SAMe ??

Not directly.

> Are their any other supplements that help ??

L-methionine increases SAMe levels, but you're better off turning homocysteine into methionine, as high homocysteine levels are toxic to the circulatory system.

There is no Upper Limit for B12 intake. You can't overdose, or at least, there has never been a reported case of toxic overdose. I use 1,000 mcg tablets myself.

Oh, one more thing. Paypal will set up your Canadian chequing account to do international money transfers. It's a secure system, and it can take the place of credit cards altogether. I don't have credit cards (bankruptcy), but I use Paypal all the time. You could use it as a google search term, along with the supplement you're seeking?
