Phosphatydl serine...feeling stimulated??? Help

Posted by sac on September 19, 2004, at 13:32:17

Hi, I just recently started Phosphatydl serine to lower high cortisol level. I'm also taking lithium and Prozac to manage BPII. My question is I feel a bit racy since starting the PS and bordering on manic. Is this supposed to be stimulating? I thought it would calm me down. Although it is helping tremendously with fatigue and memory problems I have been having. I'm taking 200 mgs. 2 x day. Any inputs??Thanks -Stacey

It can increase dopamine levels. I found that it made me a bit paranoid. Then again, almost everything makes me a bit paranoid.

Thanks for your quick response. I am a bit concerned because I started feeling racy after I began taking this to reduce my high cortisol level. Do you know if there are any other alternatives to reduce cortisol? Thanks.

Ginkgo reduces cortisol, but I personally don't think that it would be any better at mixing with the medications you're taking.

Lithium actually reduces cortisol. I think that theanine (reduces cortisol) would probably mix ok, with the meds you're taking.

I know a few people who can't tolerate phosphatidylserine, myself included - i get a headache if I just hold it!

I looked on pubmed to see if I could find any clues and came across this abstract...

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=pubmed&dopt=Abstract&list_uids=15225357

Seems exposure of phosphatidylserine can initiate cell death through apoptosis - I was wondering if people like me can't metabolize it that well or integrate it into cell membranes efficiently enough? Maybe it might then cause neuronal damage?

I do OK with lecithin that has small amounts of phosphatidylserine in it, and get on really well with B12, betaine and folinic acid to help make SAM, as methylation is needed to make phosphatidylserine.
