For KaraS---

I wanted to answer a query you had on an above thread on a new one---

> Isn't DHA important as well? Are most of you taking other things besides fish oil? If so, how do you know how much of your good effect is attributable to the fish oil?

Klonopin "dust" (.125 mgs bid) and Salmon oil are all I take. Occ. Vit E. --- Nothing else for the past six months. I've tried much and made things very complicated for me. Much fell by the wayside, fish oil never did. Folks here may take issue with my lack of multi stuff, but that's pretty much how I know the Salmon oil is great for me.

Thanks for following up on that. I probably should have started a new thread myself. I'm definitely going to increase the fish oil - starting tonight.

I don't think anyone here on the Alternative Board would take issue with your short list of treatments. If it works for you and you don't feel the need for anything else, then why take them?

Thank you Kara. A little tip that may work for you, too. The Salmon oil has really helped with the cyst breakout problem - why, I do not know. We have discussed this before, I believe, but the SO has been different for me - again, who knows why...

Thanks for that. I guess I'm projecting as my "herbal" friend is a bit on me over the: "You really need to be taking...". You are right, what works for ya is the way to go.

If you try the SO, I would like to know if you notice any difference regarding the skin's reaction if you'll share that.

Glydin,

The Omega 3s I took that I bought from that holistic doctor many years ago didn't cause acne. (I remembered this after that thread we had going a while ago). All of the fish oil and the flax seed oil that I had bought on my own since then (except for the latest brand I bought by Natural Factors) had caused the cystic acne. Again, I'm only on 1 gram now. I think that if I gradually increase, then I'll see what happens.

OTOH, I just noticed last night that the stress I'm under now is starting to take it's toll on my skin so it might be more difficult to assess what the effect of increasing the fish oil is. I'm also planning on starting a new antidepressant soon so it might not be the best time to make another change because I won't know which is doing what. At any rate, I have some decisions to make.

Once I do start to increase the fish oil, I'll let you know how it goes. If the acne does become a problem, then I'll definitely try the salmon oil. Did you say what brand you use?

Kara

~~~Hey Kara,
I hope it works out for you. I do think it helps my overall mood. I feel it when I have gone periods without - they are rare (the not taking it times), but I have done that over the last year and I've noted a change. Because I don't use an RX AD, I consider the SO my AD. Motivation and drive are the big issues for me and I really think it's helped. I think it helps with my anxiety stuff, too, which is my primary problem. My Klonopin dose has reduced since I've begun using fish oils consistently - I still titrate, but overall, a really low dose -- that pleases me.
~~~Stress does do horrible things to us, doesn't it? It really shows on our very faces. Again, I hope you can work things out for yourself.

~~~Please do let me know how things go for you. In terms of the FO/SO thing, I've done expensive and cheap - playing around. I have found the cheap Sundown brand at CVS works just fine for me. I can get a "vat" of them for about $10.00 - even better if I hit up a sale AND have a coupon--- SWEET.
Best to you,
Glydin
