Just read an article in a health magazine on sexual problems. It suggested that AD users with libido, erection, and premature ejaculation could benefit from Ginko. This was from a study at the University of California. It helped 76% of the men and 9l% of the women. Anyone else heard of this? Phillipa

Hi Phillipa!
You are posting a lot lately! Dr. Bob is very addictive! Btw, I'm just about to reply to your babblemail.
Yes, I've heard of using ginkgo for this purpose. Apparantly, some trials have shown a good effect whereas others have been negative. So much seems to depend on brand with herbs.

Hi Phillipa,
Yeah, this study has been around for a while. Here's a link to a summary (or possibly the full text):
http://www.mhsanctuary.com/rx/ginkgo.htmNote, though, that the study was open-label in design with no placebo comparison group. Even so, success rates of 91% and 76% do seem a little excessive to be a pure placebo effect. But, given the the relatively small sample (33 women and 30 men), there's always the possibility that these results are an outlier.
I don't mean to be too skeptical, though. I've used gingko and it *may* have reduced my SSRI-induced sexual dysfunction some. You might as well go ahead and try it. Ginkgo has other purported benefits: memory, circulation, possibly anxiolysis due to 5-HT1A activation/growth. (Again, I don't think these have been systematically established yet, although there is a large study of the mental effects of ginkgo just under way.)
Keep in mind that any benefits are likely to show up only over time. I.e., there won't be a moment where all of a sudeen things go from not working to working. Instead it would be a gradual return of libido or function, I think.
HTH,

Never worked for me! Lowered my dose of Lexapro to 5mg, and with a little cbt help, I have no panic and normal sexual function!
This is the end of the thread.
