Lecithin? Inositol? either for BP/anx./deprssn?

Posted by MM on February 28, 2005, at 1:41:06

I read through many old posts on these 2, but I couldn't find answers to my questions so.... Will taking either of them worsen Bipolar depression (as I read on one post)? Is taking Lecithin very different than taking Inositol? (the lecithin is sooo much cheaper) Did anyone try either/notice an effect on depression or anxiety (or anything else)? Thank you.

Sorry, forgot to ask what the dose of Lecithin would be, if that is something that is ok or helpful to take.

I've taken large doses, up to, I guess, 10-12 grams of inositol for my panic/anxiety, as indicated in those studies a couple years back. Can't say that I've taken them for more than a week, but at those dose and time period, I did not notice anything. Panic and GAD still in full gear even with 10 grams inositol per day. Perhaps I didn't take it long enough though.

I don't know what the difference really is, I take lecithin everyday but straight inositol makes me sluggish and more depressed.

Lecithin can be phosphatidyl-choline, and/or a mixture with phosphatidyl-inositol, and/or phosphatidyl-ethanolamine.

Each phosphatide is incorporated in cell membranes. The most effective phosphatide, from a mood perspective, is phosphatidyl-serine. It, unfortunately, is not a major constituent of lecithin (generally a byproduct of soya-oil production, which is why it is so cheap).

Phosphatidyl-serine can be synthesized from lecithin, but it is rather expensive. PS is also showing evidence that it is a neuromodulator (a signalling compound), not only a structural chemical.

I use lecithin granules from a bulk food store, and just eat them straight up. Or, I blend them into a smoothie. I'm of the belief that lecithin supps work synergistically with fish oil as a mood stabilizer.

i have tried lots of lecithin over the years, and find that the best brand i can get is NOW foods non-gmo....it tastes and 'feels' better than all the rest, including NOW brand regular lecithin

for me and my doctor and supp using friends it is worth the extra expanse to get the non-gmo variety....try it !!!!

now, as for phos serine, i just last night realized that i still had some around, NOW brand again, and 200 mg made my day, or night in this instance

i also had some seriphos from NEESBY, which is also sold under the INTERPLEXUS brand, and took tow of those

slept great, but more importantly did not wake up in an anxious state as i had been doing recently

i searched and searched and the only info i can come up with re: seriphos is on a website called 'drmarkrhodes.com' he is a quantitative research biologist.

he claims that seriphos is better, cheaper and safer than regular ps

i can get either at wholesale through my doc friend.......can you please comment on SERIPHOS?

thanks and glad you're back !!

Hello.

I don't take lecithin all the time, but I do take fish oil all the time. For anxiety, I take triple lecithin caps with 1/2 B complex tab (B5 helps the lecithin get into the brain so I've heard). I take this maybe once a day, sometimes none.

I totally agree with Larry the fish oil and lecithin is great as a mood stabilizer (and accompanying anxiety).
