Hey Ed. I can certainly understand why people would just stand back and wait for me to answer. Sorry about the delay. I'm spread pretty thin these days.

For general health maintenance (including mental health issues), a target of around five capsules per day is a good choice. You have to bear in mind, though, that some people just don't tolerate fish oil well. To minimize digestive complaints, always take the fish oil with a large meal, and preferably one that contains a good bit of fat.....that induces bile secretions that optimize fish oil uptake. The meal itself minimizes hydrolysis in the stomach, which leads to "rancid fish burps" and other complaints.

For mood disorders, you could go higher than that 5 capsule/day figure. Some people stabilize at some multiples of that amount.

At the 5 gram/day intake level, it would take eight months to a year to resaturate neuronal membranes with the best ratio of DHA to arichidonic acid. Even if you don't sense any dramatic changes, the health benefits continually accrue.

Some people notice an immediate improvement. That's because EPA is a precursor to a variety of modulatory eicosanoids. More common, though, is simply just a growing sense of resiliency and adaptability. A rather non-specific "feeling better" thing.

If you don't notice much difference, don't fret. You're doing your heart and blood vessels a world of good.

Thank you for replying :-)

That's what I've been taking so far! It was basically a random guess- I don't know enough about nutrition/supplements, I would like to learn more.

>The meal itself minimizes hydrolysis in the stomach, which leads to "rancid fish burps" and other complaints.

I'm pleased to say that I haven't had nay so far.

>Some people notice an immediate improvement.

I do think it seems to be helping a bit, I've only been taking it for just over a week.

Kind regards,
Ed.
