hi all, i have an appointment with my pychopharmacologist this week, and we only meet every 2-3 months, so any advice would be invaluable. i'm taking prozac for ocd, and after 3 years it has had the usual side-effects of most ssri's i've tryed, apathy, energy-zap, and more than a little sexual dysfunction. i just began taking nadh 2 month's ago, and at 5 mgs. every other day, i seem to be getting a stimulating effect, and also a pro-sexual, [whoo hoo] jolt i didn't expect. does nadh have the same dopamine and a.d, effects as wellbutrin, and is it safe in the long run for an ocd patient like myself.
i was prepared to ask for wellbutrin to augument my "zac", but if anyone knows if nadh can be just as effective, or have an expeirence to share, i would be very appreciative!! thanks so much in advance....john berk

So, it enhances production, and indirectly, release of dopamine. Wellbutrin inhibits synaptic reuptake. Two different mechanisms altogether.
NADH is also an essential component in mitochondrial electron transport, and thereby enhances ATP production (general cell energy). So, fatigue or apathy might be ameliorated by this route, as well.
The effects you describe could certainly be antidepressant, all by themselves, eh?
In my experience, there is a possibility that irritability might gradually appear with NADH. I suspect that is due to some cumulative biochemical stress. I'd just make sure I had a decent supply of other B-vitamins (supplement) and vitamin C (supplement). Also, TMG (trimethylglycine, also known as betaine) seems to be a good combination with the NADH. 250 mg might be a good dose, each time you take the NADH.
Thanks for sharing your experiences.

hi larry, thank you so much for your response. even though i am a new member, i have read the boards quite often in the past month, and i knew you were the go-to guy, [so to speak] i was hoping you would answer!! you make a great speculation, one i have entertained lately, that possibly the nadh is giving me more of an a.d. effect than anything, i will discuss that today with my dr. i really feel so much better since trying nadh. i do take extra vitamin c,as well as niacin once a day, [100 mgs.] along with a multi-vitamin. i am going to pick up on the tmg today, thanks for the tip. your answer was right on time, i am going to my dr. in just a few hours, thanks so much again....john berk.

FWIW I found that nadh caused much less irritability than Welbutrin. That could just be me, it's the one side effect I usually don't get.

I had good results with 10 mg a day, unfortunately it poops out on me really quickly, maybe a week or 2 at the most. So I haven't taken any lately, it's not cheap and it seemed the money would be better spent trying other things. Maybe I'm not a good example, it seems that for a lot of people the effect is cumulative.
