I was curious about the doasge of tryptopan. I've read anywhere from 1-5 grams a day. I would say that my depression/anxiety is major to extreme, and im coming off of klonopin, down to .5.
Also, it's beneficial to take 5htp as well correct? A long w/ niacinimide.
If you could give me some recommendations, i'd appreciate it.
FYI, all of them do not make me tired, so i am able to split doses, and go higher perhaps. Tired would be welcome, instead of being highstrung, trapped in the head of obsessions and ruminations, and of course doom. Thanks,
Brian

One more question. Do i drop the melatonin? I did last night, and sleep wasn't nearly as good. But shouldn't the serotonin convert into melatonin?

Dosage is pretty easy to determine. When you start galloping around the living room, jumping over the sofa or eating your breakfast from a nosebag, you may want to consider reducing the dose a little ;-)

guess just whinnying at the fillies is OK then ;-)I'd guess a good place to start would be 1/2 G two time a day for most males? then work up ? Take about 20 mins before eating something with carbs for Max. uptake? Preferably before bed for one dose..followed by dessert or something 20 mins after. Maybe chocolate or something sweet?
The idea of a glass of warm milk before bed for young children is partly the tryptophan working probably.

Thanks.
Ironically, i haven't been able to sleep on it so far. I'm on day 7 and have worked up to 4 gms, one in the morn,3 at night. I get tired and can fall asleep quickly, but it's extrememly anxiety riddin, very tense, rolling around, and waking up at least once.
Should i switch it all to day time? Or lower the dose? Or wait? I've seen that it can take longer than a week to work.
But i had the same reaction to paxil and lamictal, which are typically taken at night as well. Thanks,
Brian

> BrianDid you say you also just dropped melatonin? You can get a little dependent on that for sleep. Not bad dependent. In the sense that your body isn't making enough and might never make enough. Dependent like a diabetic on insulin injections.
I see no reason to exceed 2 g /day of tryptophan, and just see where that leaves you after a couple of weeks.
And stay on the melatonin if that's what gets you the sleep you need. You can't count on your pineal gland to do the conversion, just because you've upped the availability of a distant precursor.
You can always increase the tryptophan later on, if indicated.
