Niacinamide Dosage

Posted by Nickengland on August 12, 2005, at 17:01:15

Hello there..

Just wondered what peoples thoughts were on what was the average dosage for Niacinamide on an 'as needed' use for anxiety?

I have 550mg capsules - does this seems about right?

I was wondering if these capsules maybe alittle bit on the high side for strength?

Kind regards

Nick

If I recall correctly, I took up to 4 of that size capsule ach day for ages (although it didnt really seem to help me much).

Try a search on here as i'm sure larry (its about time he appeared again if Bob hasnt completely p*ssed him off) posted up some good stuff on niacinimide quite recently.

I have niacinamide and have taken two 550mg capsules a day, doesn't do anything for me. I would try it in combination with inositol and GABA, there's a few books written on combining these three supplements.

Twinlabs has a product based on research using these 3 products it's called Gaba Plus

Gaba-Plus with Inositol & Niacinamide is a high potency, scientifically formulated and synergistic combination of the amino acid derivative GABA (Gamma Amino Butyric Acid), with Inositol and the vitamin Niacinamide. This product is manufactured at our own state of the art facility.

Supplement Facts:
Serving Size: 2 Capsule
Amount Per 2 capsules %DV
Niacin (from Niacinamide) 400 mg 1000 % 1000 mg 5000 %
GABA 200 mg * 500 mg *
(gamma amino butyric acid)
Inositol 1200 mg * 3000 mg

Hi Teejay

Yeah shame Larry isn't around, although I only spoke to him afew times, from what i can gather from the archives and history he really was the 'babble alternative guru' with his vast amount of knowledge.

I've had some effects of taking the 550mg niacinamide and tried taking 2 as well. I also take a b complex as I've heard taking just one of the b vitamins alone drains the others.

To be honest I'm not getting much from it, but from what I do get I guess it is a benefit.

Thanks for your reply..

Nick

Hello Nolvas,

Its strange because I've seen plain old niacin sold in the shops here (uk), but that was only in 100mg tablets. When i look on the web it appears that most niacinamide is sold at 500mg roughly 5 x that of the plain niacin..

Funnily enough Gaba is on my next list of things to try...I read to that theres a link with taking Niacin and Gaba together as gaba does not cross the blood brain barrier so well, and so niacin helps get gaba to the brain or something......Picamilon? (I think this is what the supplement is called?)

I'm thinking of trying gaba, just out of curosity to see how effective it is, and then if its not, taking it along side with the 550mg of niacinamide of got and a 500mg gaba pill to see if I get an effect then..

Do you think this sounds sensible?

Kind regards

Nick

Ps thanks for the twinlabs info - i'll have a look at their website if I can get to it through google...I assume they are in the US? so hope they will deliever to the UK if you get what I mean lol Its seems I cannot get Gaba from anywhere in the shops over here...this country is not only bad for psychiatric drugs but also supplements! lol

Be careful with the dosage of Gaba it can cause more anxiety and breathlessness. I would take the amounts in the twinlabs formula and see how you get on.

Have you tried adding some magnesium to your regime nick? I tried it, but again it didnt really do much for me, but the effects of niacinimide and magnesium could work well together for anxiety.

I take chelated magnesium, it does help a little. Get chelated magnesium or magnesium glyccinate, they are absorbed a lot better than magnesium oxide which is in the cheaper supplements. I find I can only just tolerate 400mg of magnesium any more and I need the toilet!

Hi Nolvas
Does magnesium glycinate have the sedative effect (such as it is) of glycine?

Have a read of this quote, I will provide the link at the bottom of the quote >

MAGNESIUM CHELATE
"The best forms of supplemental magnesium seem to be chelated to an amino acid (magnesium glycinate, magnesium taurate) or a krebs cycle intermediate (magnesium malate, magnesium citrate, magnesium fumarate). These forms seem to be better utilized, absorbed, and assimilated. Try to stay away from inorganic forms of magnesium like magnesium as chloride, carbonate or sulphate as they may not be absorbed as well and may cause gastric disturbance

Amino acid chelated minerals are more bioavailable than any other type of mineral. The absorption rates are three to six times greater than mineral salts and they have twice the retention and utilisation in the body. Through chelation, an amino acid claws onto, or binds to, a mineral. This enables that mineral to be absorbed through the gut wall.

Both taurine & magnesium stabilize cell membranes. Both exert sedative effects & inhibit the excitability of nerve cells throughout the central nervous system.”

I would think that magenesium and taurine supplementation would go well together. I'm not supplementing any calcium at the moment. Could anyone shine any light on whether I should? I know that Calcium and Magnesium are usually in a balanced ratio in supplements, so I would like to know if there's any long term effects of just taking Magnesium.
