How much fish oil to take

Posted by Tanzanite on February 26, 2006, at 17:15:44

I forget how much fish oil in capsules/mgs was safe to take each to help with emotional problems/depression and anxiety. Sorry to ask again, but thanks in advance.

It's variable and I can't quote references at the moment, but from research and personal experience I've found 1 gram of EPA/day to be my personal optimum dose. That roughly equals six 1000 mg capsules, depending on concentrations. If you take this dose make sure to take in about 10 mg of vitamin E to prevent lipid peroxidation of the oils in the body. Probably the best form is found in wheat germ oil.

Effects tend to accumulate very slowly over several months. It's not a magic cure by any means, but I find it the most important thing I take for depression/anxiety. At the very least it is very beneficial for your heart and they are generally very safe.

Others may have different results at different doses. Best of Luck to you Tanzanite.
