This has been mentioned a couple of times in the past on this forum. Good luck getting an oxytocin nasal spray though :(

Oxytocin for social anxiety-Now your talking!

Now thats whats needed in a drug to treat social anxiety, something that stimulates oxytocin.

GHB works great for my Social Anxiety (it has big drawbacks!)

Other sedatives like Clonazepam leave me cold

The critically important thing about GHB is that it stimulates Oxytocin release, so MDMA.

A drug that has a positive effect on Oxytocin would be great, but I'm not holding my breath :(

I'm wondering if Oxytocin can make you trust a situation. What I mean by that is for an agoraphobic they have places where they feel safe and trust, and avoid or feel very uncomfortable in other situations.

So it would be great if Oxytocin retrained the amygdala so that the situation was trusted and the fear response would not be needed.

My Father was a Vet he retired last year. I always say bottles of Oxytocin for intravenous use on his shelves. I dunno what it's used for in Veterinary medicine. Never asked him. Anyway I never knew it was possibly was possibly so helpful in treating social phobia. Studies only used nasal spray and in any case I wouldn't start injecting anything unless I was diabetic and therefore had a good reason.

Funny to think back and see this promising hormone was so near yet so far hehe.

I read somewhere ( can't remember ) . that oxytocin has a hard time crossing the blood brain barrier and that the injectable stuff they give animals would only get to your brain if you injected it into the brain ( yeouch!) .. again this was just from a website and we all know how trustworthy those can be sometimes..

The other stuff I read .. said that indeed the reason it may work for social anxiety is b/c it makes you more trusting of the people around you which calms you down , etc.. but the potential drawback is that you may become guillible and trust people who you would normally not trust.

If what Tom Twilight said about MDMA releasing oxytocin, that makes a lot of sense. I know friends who have really bonded/trusted gotten chummy with some pretty unsavory people they normally would not hang out with if they were not rolling on Ecstacy.. so I guess you would need to be aware of that..

LOL... I thought that said "Oxycoton" yeah thats gonna help those little tense moments...

In the article they said they administered 3 teaspoons- an ounce up the nose-

as for a date rape drug- I think if you could get someone to snort a shot-glass full of some unknown liquid- you DON"T NEED a date rape drug-

Oxytocin is used on the farm to induce labor in livestock-- that could make for an interesting evening

I liked where the article said .." the biggest side effect for males was that they get erections" .. I think most guys taking SSRI's would love a side effect like that LOL : )
