Thoughts on tinnitus, St Johns Wort?

Posted by blueberry on April 29, 2006, at 15:00:49

The best I ever felt was with st johns wort. The problem is it causes an extreme elevation of my existing ringing in the ears.

I've noticed if I boost norepinephrine...with either DLPA or tyrosine...the tinnitus gets very quiet. They both give an instant mood boost followed by a bad depression that gets worse with more doses.

Most research says the final pathway for ear noises is through glutamate and/or dopamine systems, and that the sounds go through the same parts of the brain as memory and mood.

So I wonder how does norepineprhine squash that out? I wonder if the glutamate reuptake of sjw is what raises the tinnitus level? I wonder if norepinephrine squashes out glutamate or dopamine?

Strange...common treatments for tinnitus are xanax and klonopin and ssri's. All these actually increase my tinnitus a lot. Weird.

The problem with me raising norepinephrine to quiet things down is that it also makes me super depressed like I need to go to the hospital.

Stuck. Thoughts on st johns wort, tinnitus? I want to take st johns wort again, but I also want to figure a way to keep things quiet. I mean, the tinnitus just roars. That seems like an impossible puzzle right now.

Have you tried high dose fish oil in the range of 6 grams of combined EPA and DHA daily? That equals out to about 20 capsules of the stuff I take. It has a profound positive effect on my mood.

I find that anything that thins my blood can cause tinnitus. I know SJW has an effect in this regard.

Increasing norepinephrine may bring your attention out of your head and into the world about you.

I don't know if that makes sence, but I know when I take a stimulant like cofee, all of a sudden I start to hear things in the environment.

Just and idea

Hi

Ginkgo helps tinnitus apparently (but you may already know this)...

Well actually not according to this study....

I wonder if the same goes for Hydergine and vinpocetine?

Of course it does. Don't you *hate* that?

Have you read the wiki article? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tinnitus

It hotlinks to other topics, so you can really follow your muse. The reference links are good, too.

I just taurined my tinnitus, and it definitely helped.

I taurined my tinnitus, and it's nearly gone.
