Do you know of any downside of taking this herb? It sounds like I should be adding this to my green tea.

I don't know of any. That's not to say there aren't any of course.

There is some confusion about the appropriate dose of Jiaogulan. The following dosages have been recommended by various researchers:

- 160 mg per day
- 250 mg per day (product information for capsules standardized to contain 30% Gypenosides) – lower end of range
- 750 mg per day (product information for capsules standardized to contain 30% Gypenosides) – upper end of range
- 2,250 mg per day

Jiaogulan is available from some internet-based suppliers in the form of:

- 250 mg capsules (12:1 concentration) standardized to contain 30% (75 mg) Gypenosides
- 375 mg tablets standardized to contain 10% Gypenosides
- 400 mg capsules
- tea bags
- powder standardized to contain 80% Gypenosides

Thanks Nolvas, good information. I just wonder why this supplement has not gotten more attention. I guess it takes a while for information to filter in to the western medical establishment.

Hmm. Previous claims of "miracle cures" and "miracle herbs" have tended to be overblown, false, or plain out dangerous. Some are great of course- I just mean, I'd be a teeny skeptical or cautious of anyone pushing a "miracle" panacea.

The "cocaine miracle", the "ephedra miracle"-are two that come to mind...

Good point, I agree. But there are several studies out there that back up some of the claims. It's been described as an adaptagen, with similarities to ginseng and rhodiola.

warm regards, Jake

Hi Jake,

I didn't mean to suggest something like all of the claims are definately false-just that products that do claim to cure just about everything often have a history of being overrated- and that mild skepticism and investigation might be a good idea before accepting all claims of a new miracle product as fact. Maybe some claims turn out to be 100% valid, while others a little exaggerated. Something like that. In any case, the research you mention definately sounds interesting and exciting.

Respectfully,

Laima
