Light therapy: Can it cause anxiety?

Posted by saturn on November 22, 2006, at 19:01:20

I've read that light therapy may cause mania but I'm wondering if there are any anecdotal or theoretical reasons that it could specifically be anxiogenic.

If anyone has any thoughts or experience with this I would greatly appreciate any feedback.
Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving. Peace...Saturn.

I would imagine that light theraphy would increase serotonin production in the brain.

This might reduce anxiety

It may not though, as we know from other posts on this forum reducing Serotonin activity via novel compounds such as Tianeptine (complete opposite of SSRI drugs) also has anxiolytic properties. Serotonin can have the complete opposite effect in one person from the next. Only way to know for certain is to try for yourself :|
