Idebenone

Posted by Declan on December 30, 2006, at 21:47:11

This is really weird stuff. Not useful for me because of insomnia resulting, but quite powerful.

I bought it in bulk so the dose was approximate. No idea how it can be used without causing insomnia. Might be good for NYE if staying up all night.

Does it feel the same as taking Co Q 10 ?

Does it casue anxiety or jitteriness? I have been curious about that stuff, but have not heard of anyone who had tried it?

thanks

JB

Not at all the same.
I get no noticeable effect from CoQ10.
This was different and psychoactive.
Perhaps jittery, but it was OK, even good, except for the insomnia, which rules it out for me.

Happy new year Declan (caus its IS 2007 now, as you know:-)
..
powerful in what way?
You the first person i know who's tried it too.
Coq10 went good for me for first couple of months at 30mg daily..and then really bad as it built up over months and I increased dose to 75mg dose.. like oxidizing bad , so stopped it. It seems to get itself oxidized or something if too much of it
I thought idebenone was supposed to overcome whatever that shortfall in CoQ10 was.. only i've forgotten exact;y what is was now.. it was back in 2004 that i was trialling CoQ10.

It has a rep for being a smart drug, which must mean it affects neurotransmitters or something.
I just felt stimulated on it, and knew before sleeping that it would be difficult.
They say that CoQ10 can be a pro-oxidant, but not idebenone.

Yes, Happy New Year, Jan.
May you protect yourself from oxidative stress (and the other sorts) in enterprising and unusual ways.

CoQ10 can switch function from an anti-oxidizing to an auto-oxidizing process. This auto-oxidation rapidly produces free radicals which damage the tissues of the body.

Idebenone is said to perform the same functions as CoQ10 without the risk of an auto-oxidation reaction.

Insomnia is the most frustrating side effect from stimulants.

What was the lowest dosage you tried?

So how's the idebenone going dec?
I presume you take it first thing in morning or with first meal of day?

Also I'm interested in trying it , so if you have too much and don't like it and want to swap a bit of it for some SJW or something..let me know :)
suggestion only, don't feel any obligation etc :)
I must have overordered on SJW sometime..and I dont like it!

See, it was in bulk and I just put this little bit on the edge of a teaspoon. I have no idea what the recommended dose is, even. But in any case it's stimulating and anything that disturbs sleep is bad with me.

I must go read my medical book.

It seems to increase serotonin and NGF in aged rats.

"the pattern of serotonin metabolism was significantly modified in aged rats following repeated treatment with idebenone and was partially restored to a value similar to the one observed in young animals. "

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=8791034&dopt=Abstract

"Twenty-one-day successive administration of idebenone produced significant recovery of reduced NGF content in the frontal cortex and parietal cortex of aged rats."

Are you still taking the Idebenone? Does it cause anxiety/ make you jittery? or just insomnia?

Thanks for info

No JB, I've only taken it the once. The effect was good at the time before the insomnia. Perhaps I overdid it?

But they do say take it in the morning because of this.

Most natural stimulants are so long acting that I can't take them daily........the good ones like rhodiola and deprenyl.
