Skullcap, limeflowers

Posted by Meri-Tuuli on January 9, 2007, at 10:48:38

Any experiences, info, anything...? I've googled them, but there isn't much out there, and there's very very little in the archives.

So any info would be great.

Kind regards

Meri

Hi Merri

Lindenblutte then? Limeflowers are supposed to be OK for pregnant women so must be pretty safe.

Skullcap has a reputation as a herbal sedative that is restorative and safe for depressives to use.

I get a sleep tonic made up with zizyphus and skullcap. Zizyphus is the seed of a variety (zizyphus spinosa) of date. It's great, apart from the cost of it.

Hi Declan,

I didn't know that about limeflowers. I know its popular in herbal teas here in Europe so I guess it must be very safe. There's just not much info about it out there, which I find slightly strange. Same thing with skullcap.

The blend I have is limeflowers, schizandra and skullcap. The herbalist was adamant that the schizandra be included. Well whatever helps. I have yet to build up the courage to try some through!!

How's your blend? Does it help with sleep?

I don't know about limeflowers, but I have tried skullcap. I used it to relax after work and help insomnia. It did not have the knockout punch of benadryl or drugs that I am accustomed to, but it did help. I took the recommended dose on the bottle but I think I needed more. It seemed longlasting. Even through the next day I felt very calm and serene, almost totally noncaring about anything.

Skullcap is put into natural high smoking blends as it is supposed to mild marijuana-like. I tried smoking it. I didn't get high. I did get a sense of calm. I was staring at a picture of a cat on the wall in semi-dark and I swear I saw the cat's eyes looking left to right, blinking, staring at me. It wasn't a real high, and if it hadn't been in semi-dark it probably wouldn't have happened, but I know for sure it would not have happened on its own without smoked skullcap.

Overall it seems mild enough. Yet it has power because I have read in a couple places that they use it to help wean people off of opiates. For insomnia I found it helpful, but like I said, it didn't have the knockout punch of drugs like xanax, benzos, remeron, zyprexa, or seroquel.

My blend is good for sleep. Definately real, quite helpful, not as strong as you'd like but still....

Schizandra is one of my favourites and should (hopefully) be no problem at all. 5 flavoured fruit.

Skullcap is said to have a deep mode of action. I guess this is reflected in the quality of the calming action. It's good and yet you hardly notice it.

Thanks for your post blueberry it was very interesting. Skullcap sounds promising and quite nice. I'm quite looking forward to trying some actually. Probably at the weekend.

The herbalist also had added it to a previous blend I had taken. She seems to like it. What does it actually feel like to take it? I've always taken it with blends, so I don't really know. And that being said, because of my fears, I've only ever been able to get up to 1ml/day of schizandra, so hardly anything really.
