SAMe fr Depression / instead of/ with Celexa???

Posted by deepinit on February 14, 2007, at 1:21:46

I have chronic, bad depression, controlled now by Celexa. I would really like to get off Celexa for a variey of reasons including (numb south of the border, a LOT of weight gain etc...) . I am afraid to go off Celexa (so far, every time I have tried in the past, it has been a nightmare), but wish to add SAMe and ween myself off Celexa as I increase the SAMe dose. Has anyone done this? Can you please share your experiece???
I also take salmon oil which has really helped.
Lastly I am afraid of Seratonin Syndrom. I have had it in the past from a MD making a mistake with a couple of meds. It is NOT FUN.

Thank you!!!!!!

I do not recommend SAMe, especially if you have problems with anxiety since SAMe increases epinephrine.

Have you tried low carb/high fat diet to deal with weight gain. This diet works as an anticonvulsant and has a mood stabilizing effect.

I think you should discuss your side effects with your psych, there could be other options like combining SSRI with Buspar or Lithium, which could make it possible to lower Celaxa dosage.
