Glucophage as a treatment for BP?

Has anyone been on Glucophage/Metformin for any reason and if so, did it have any "mood" or cognitive effects?

I have a friend that started on this and for whatever reason she feels great since.

I don't think she is bipolar, maybe a bit depressed.
