best zinc? copper deficiency in vegans?

Posted by iforgotmypassword on May 12, 2007, at 10:03:48

i just got zinc citrate for now. currently also taking magnesium malate, was taking magnesium citrate as well. another poster elsewhere (lymenet) was saying citrates are potentially dangerous due to their interaction with aluminum (or aluminum, i think it was.) would this be a valid worry?

wondering what foods copper is most abundant in and if any diets are known to be lower, like maybe vegetarian or vegan diets, or improperly variated vegan diets? are deficincies known to be common if certain foods are avoided, and zinc is being supplemented?

Well I think I asked the Esteemed Larry Hoover sometime about this (copper defincies in zinc supplementation). And from what I can remember, you are probably getting all the copper you need from your water, if you have copper water carrying pipes. And if you're supplementing with normal amounts of zinc (like I guess 15mg) then copper thingies wouldn't be a problem.

But I'm tired and I can't remember, and blueberry reckons copper is neurotoxic anyway.

This citrates and aluminium thing. Well. Could that have anything to do with the fact that you're not supposed to use acids like for example lemon/orange juice in alumunium crockery (because the acids will corrode some of the alumium into the juice etc and hence end up in your gut) and we all know alumium is suspected in Azlimers?

Sorry my spelling is really off, but its late for me.

So vegans drink water from the tap right? Then I guess Cu deficency wouldn't be a problem then. But yeah, search the archives.

Kind regards

Meri
