I read here that you are not sure of its safety. Would you mind telling me why that is? Does it have something to do with the fact that its usually taken without carbidopa?

In reply to Linkadge, why do you think Mucuna Pruriens unsafe?, posted by clipper40 on January 19, 2008, at 20:54:06
Supraphysiological L-DOPA itself has pretty solid evidence at this point of being neurotoxic. Mucuna also contains things like 5-MEO-DMT (in low concentrations I assume, otherwise people would be taking it for different reasons) but it could all get problematic with some MAO inhibition. Just some thoughts.

Interesting, do you know why L-DOPA would be neurotoxic and increasing dopamine more directly wouldn't be? (or maybe it is???)
Didn't know at all about the 5-MEO-DMT. I'm assuming it must be very low percentage-wise because no one here who took it reported any hallucinations.

I never said Mucuna was unsafe, I don't really know much about it at all.
I think dopa is toxic via some sort of glutamatergic or oxadative process.
There is substantial evidence that dopa administration appears to accelerate parkinsons progression.
