My 12 year old daughter has anxiety which is causing depression, she hasn't been at school since October. We've tried Lexapro, too stimulating, Prozac, which knocked her out. My husband takes fish oil, and it really helps him. I'll ask her Dr., but I'd like to know any success stories. Thanks--Vickie

Yes! It helps rebuild and protect brain cells.
Here's a good link... at least it is a link for now (it's on a blog) "Fish Oil": $$ and Favorite Brands of Omega-3 Supplements -- http://itsnotmental.blogspot.com/2008/02/fish-oil-and-favorite-brands-of-omega-3.html It has discussion and links and the site is really about children.I've read about studies showing that SSRIs may do something similar to fish oil (but maybe not as safely) - in that it helps regrow brain connections.
I have to say, though, it was not enough for the child I know and it took years for the doctors to figure out something as simple as she needed thyroid hormone.

Her Doctor actually did mention the Thyroid connection, but now that you have said it, I think I will discuss it again with her Dr. She's doing OK on Lexapro, but I would like to explore that idea. Thanks!!! Vickie
