Best supplements for ADD?

Posted by Manoa on October 4, 2008, at 14:38:42

I take Vyvanse and that seems to help, but I get really tired at the end of the day.

I fall asleep easily but many nights have vivid dreams which makes me tired in the morning. Doctor recommended GABA and one 750mg capsule before bed seems to work great.

I'm also taking Fish oil and have been thinking about adding other supplements.

SAM-e for mood? I am getting better, but sometimes when I'm coming down from meds, I need a little support. Especially when I'm on my period.

Mucuna Pruriens, Phenylalanine or Tyrosine to increase dopamine. Can't tell which one is better of Phenylalanine and Tyrosine.

DMAE for alertness and focus.

Alpha Lipoic Acid - good anti-ox.

Thoughts?

How many milligrams of Vyvanse are you taking? If it's not lasting the whole day, you dosage might not be optimal.

Rather than changing the dosage, you could try emptying the capsule contents, dissolving in water, drink half in the morning and half at noon. This would prolong the effect and prevent the "coming down."

Since Vyvanse is a prodrug, it is okay to empty capsules and dissolve in water. It does not affect the action of the drug.

Ugh ... I keep forgetting that messages have to "submit" twice.

Thanks for the tip on mixing with water. I forgot about that. My doc increased me from 50 to 60 and told me to tap out a little if I thought it was too much - say on the weekends.

I did the tap-thing the other day and it was horrible. I definitely tapped out too much. I brought the extra WITH me, but I forgot all about taking it.
