I've gone to dozens of doctors trying to feel better....just like everyone else here. One dr. recommended a B-Complex formula because I take antidepressants. My chief complaint is I am always tired and foggy with my Prozac and Wellbutrin. That is better than being manic or suicidal but there is still a quality of life issue, you know?
I have done some reading on the internet and it looks like too much B vitamins can also cause fatigue. I talke only 1 pill a day but some of the dosages of the different B vitamins are 1000% of the recommended daily value. Could this actually be too much?
I know that my hormones are ok, I am not anemic or diabetic or anything that the endocrinologist, neurologist, primary care doc and wholistic doc have tested for. I guess I wonder if they would sell a supplement that would give you so much of a vitamin that it's bad for you. Do any of you have any experience with supplements that have had a negative effect rather than a positive one?

~~~ Yes, almost all supplements, vits and "additions" cause me negative findings. In fact, I can say I have had more problems with additions than from RXed compounds in terms of the untoward effects not waning over time.B vits are problematic for me with increased anxiety symptoms and excess sweating issues. (Nice) As far as getting too much - B's are water soluble and the body will tend to excrete the excess. The fat soluble vits are the ones that can cause problems with excess and buildups - those like A,D,E,K... that said, individuals are just that and strange findings - good and bad - do happen.
The forum member here named Lao Tzu has the best strategy, in my opinion. I have seen a few doctors recommend the same approach. That is, try only one vitamin at a time to see what it does. Some people, as just one example, find they like a B6, or a B12, or a thiamine, or a niacinimide, or a niacin, or whatever, but they don't like folic acid, or they don't like the B complex with all of them together. Same with C, E, and D. Try them one at a time. Keep the ones that agree with you or feel neutral, eliminate the ones that don't feel right.
There might be one or two vitamins in your mix that hit your genetics perfectly, but they are being drowned out by the bad effects from the ones hitting your genetics the wrong way. We are all different. Just because practically everyone says take B complex doesn't mean a thing. Your body needs something, but you'll never know what it is unless you try things one at a time.
It is more costly that way obviously, but far more effective at learning about your own chemistry, what helps, what doesn't. When vitamins are all mixed together, there is no way to know what is doing what.
