SAMe. S-Adenosyl-Methione. A natural substance in the body, often depleted due to a flaw or roadblock as part of disease or genetics. It is important in orhestrating all kinds of bodily functions, some of which include serotonin and dopamine.

There was a recent study where high doses of it were added to therapeutic doses of SSRIs. Serotonin syndrome did not happen. I forgot the percentages, but a surprising number of patients got a lot better.

It is usually energizing. Good for anxiety, except in the beginning, when it has a good chance of worsening it. You can start at 200mg a day. If too much, you can cut the pills to smaller sizes. They say that since it is enteric coated cutting will allow it to be destroyed in the stomach and it won't make it to your blood system. False. I've tried it in smaller cut doses and definitely felt it.

One good thing about it, other than it being a very healthy supplement all around, is that its effects on mood are usually rapid, like seeing hints of improvement within just a few days, or even on the first day.

NatureMade is one of the brands used in clinical studies.

I take 400mg in the morning.

It fills out my mood and perhaps makes me a little overactive mentally for a bit.

It works straight away, and I have my doubts about drugs that don't.

SamE is one That feels good on me too. Works same day. I think from memory it lessens after a while, but it has temporarily balanced some levels so that's expected and the depth of depression has lifted as the levels balance.. so its something you dont keep taking, just as needed I think? It works on lowering homocysteine but helping out that cycle I think form memory, so good for cholesterol etc I assume?
There was a lot on this a few years ago here or on the med board. Its an emergency one I like.
