I've heard that this book is one of the best in orthomolecular medicine, in a similar vein as works by Carl Pfeiffer and Abram Hoffer. It's called 'Natural Healing for Schizophrenia And Other Common Mental Disorders,' by Eva Edelman. It's not just about treatments for Schizophrenia, but for other mental disorders as well. I suppose it would be a great book to read if you're interested in using such therapies as nutrients and herbs to heal your mental disorder. I haven't read the book yet, it has been regarded as one of the most comprehensive texts for the natural healing of mental disorders. You can get it used from Amazon.com for about $15.00 which is a good deal. Knowledge is power.

The only critique I would have about a book like this is it does not take into account the advantages of using some medication as well. In very severe cases of mental illness like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, some medication may be absolutely necessary in addition to nutrients. I don't believe that only the use of nutrients will resolve all symptoms of severe mental illness, but some people will have you believe that nutrients are all you need. I'm very skeptical. Medication has improved my life. Nutrients have also been helpful, but I think a combination of both is the way to go for severe mental illness.

It is wonderful for people when they can control symptoms or better yet, even heal, with no prescriptions. Not everyone can, given the current level of knowledge - and we should always keep in mind that there are different pathologies causing any one person's illness.
I wonder if anybody has read the book Nutrients Quiet the Unquiet Brain by Moyer? It is about his family. The cover is very odd, but I know I should not judge a book by it's cover. I haven't read it yet but did order it. Also this other story It's Not Mental by Wolfson http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0982805209?ie=UTF8&tag=itsnome-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0982805209
