Boosting inducible nitric oxide synthase

Posted by Tomatheus on May 16, 2014, at 22:53:27

I can think of two herbs that boost inducible nitric oxide synthase, and they're panax ginseng and ashwagandha. Does anyone here know of any other herbs or other supplements that have this action?

Come to think of it, I think that vitamin D boosts inducible nitric oxide synthase, as well.

Lamdage22,

I think that inhibiting inducible nitric oxide synthase might have played a role in bringing on my psychosis, so I was thinking that boosting the enzyme might have antipsychotic properties.

But then again, I can't say that I've noticed much relief from boosting inducible nitric oxide synthase, aside from a little bit of reduction in my psychosis when I took Korean ginseng before I started taking Abilify.

Hmm Tomatheus,

i am really looking forward to Nmda and anandamide based treatments. Glyx-13 and so on. Couple years? I don't know.
I stopped smoking and i am ready.

Also i am looking forward to Brexpiprazole. This might be "my ability" . I think abilify is the most advanced AP, especially for Schizo-affective with depression. But it gave me akathisia. Brexpiprazole is sort of like Abilify, but with less akathisia. (thats what they say)

Hey Lamdage22,

Thanks for the information on brexpiprazole. I hope that it will indeed turn out that brexpiprazole will be significantly less likely to induce akathisia than aripiprazole (Abilify). I think that the makers of Abilify and brexpiprazole (Otsuka and Lundbeck, if my understanding is correct) will stand to profit substantially from introducing a newer version of Abilify right around the time the older medication will be going off patent in the U.S., and I just hope that the newer medication will have some distinct advantages over the older medication that will make it worthwhile for patients.
