Shed be much happier if she didnt have to take any pharmaceuticals for sleep.
Any idea what might put her to sleep for several hours at a time?

Lamdage22,
My mom has a similar problem, and she finds chamomile tea to be helpful. Melatonin and magnesium might also be options.

Some people find tryptophan or 5HTP helpful, but they didn't help me. What helped my sleep significantly is described in this post:

She is taking Zopiclone and all the time people tell her what to do... Its quite annoying.
I gave her Lithium Orotate but she read she shouldnt take it and i also offered her my Magnesium since it doesnt do squat for me.
It seems to me that the "natural sleep aid" market is pretty slim at best. Antidepressants yes, sleep aids hmm..

I've created a list (which I keep under my bed) of sleep aids.....
This includes:
niacin
kava
olive oil
valerian, chamomile, passionflower, lemon balm, rosemary, catnip, hopps, lavender, feverfew, quercetin, melatonin, magnesium, taurine, tryptophan, bacopa....
Some of these go well together, others don't.If she is already taking a benzo, magnesium is a good adjunct to add. Magnesium and niacin go well together.

You could try adding some magnesium. Doxylamine or hydroxyzine might also help (relatively selective antihistamines).
A low dose of doxepin (1-2mg) might also be helpful.

A small dose of melatonin (0.5mg or 1mg), 500mg calcium citrate, and 50mg of 5HTP. This is what I read somewhere. Sounds like a good combination. There is also a magnesium supplement called Natural Calm which is supposed to be pretty good. I gave this information to my sister because she has a lot of trouble sleeping and wakes up during the night.
This is the end of the thread.
