Can anyone comment on the use of Resveratrol? I am being treated for bipolar depression.
Technically, I would like to increase my levels of intracellular cAMP by inhibiting PDE4. Resveratrol is supposed to do this.

hi. I've never heard of resveratrol being used for low mood, but...kinda makes sense. Seems like antioxidants help all kindsa crazy, from depression to psychosis.
My own approach to supplements, because of my fondness for Orthomolecular, is to go high dose for a while before drawing any conclusions. Also, taking a couple supplements together can often lead to better results than just 1 or 2. I don't know about Resveratrol, but grape seed extract is often taken w/ green tea extract, for example.
Hope it works out for you.

My interest in resveratrol lies in its reported ability to inhibit PDE4 (phosphodiesterase type 4). Inhibition of this enzyme increases the amount of cytosolic (cell fluid) cAMP (cyclic adenosine monophosphate). cAMP acts in neurons as a "second messenger", and participates in a cascade of events that lead to changes in gene transcription. In other words, resveratrol can act as a mood modulator.
