Hey guys,
I have a much easier time losing weight. If not to say, it is now possible for me and before it was not. We are talking like 1,5g-2 of powdered vanilla pod a day. I have been making my own protein shakes with it. I didn't expect anything in that direction and didn't know why I was able to lose weight. It seemed absolutely impossible before. I then switched to Cocoa and gained almost 20kg in a bit less than a year. Now I am incorporating Vanilla again and I am already more than a kilo down in less than a week.
I am not kidding you. Foods can heal. Not free, at all, but maybe worth a shot. There is some evidence around, too.

a friend is making her own vanilla extract, at home. -domestic goddess- she offered me some, once she's through with her pods, the alcohol, etc.
I may take her up on it, now. :-)

Do you overeat? I didnt know. I am losing about two pounds a week. So it will take 20-25 weeks to get back to a healthy weight. Progress in the gym may be slower if you have a calorie deficit. But that is life.
Yeah, just because there havent been any large controlled trials doesnt mean it cant work.

Its weird, I introduce foods not thinking about depression or weight at all and it then turns out that they help. Some may think it is placebo, but who cares as long as it works? I think my problems are too severe to consistently get much better by a placebo though. All these experiences with substances (including Antipsychotics) and weight gain and weight loss have changed my view about overweight people though. I think there often is something biologically different in their brains that makes crave unhealthy food. They are not undisciplined idiots. I didn't think that, but many people do. Makes them feel better about themselves to think that!
This view just perpetuates the problem and ontop of that makes the obese feel guilty and unworthy, as well, which more often than not leads to even more overeating! It certainly doesn't help.
Fat shaming is not cool. Just as uncool as discriminating people with mental disorders! Many folks (mostly the uneducated) assume that you are an idiot because you have a psych diagnosis and it's perfectly fine to treat you that way. I won't have it anymore!

Of course there are people who just lack discipline, but I don't think that is the general problem of most overweight people. Now I have made a triple post again. I really wish there was an edit button for an hour after the post!

hi. i do seem to have an over-eating problem. i think part of it is that I swing towards low moods more often than anything else (not always severe, but it affects my food intake) and also...
not to blame the miracle meds for everything, but I do, honestly, truly think that the abilify makes it harder to tell when I am full and therefore should stop eating. oddly enough, now my sure sign of 'yes, that is quite enough' is that I sneeze when I'm full. true story.
I just hope it works out for you. large trials are great, I suppose, but...it seems that vanilla is non-toxic, pleasant, and potentially beneficial, so...
go for it (my personal opinion, obviously).
:-)

Yeah, Vanilla certainly doesnt hurt. Only the wallet a bit. Neuroleptics are notorious for making you overeat. It seems like a miracle that I am losing weight on the hefty Seroquel/Zyprexa combo.

I think that Metformin, which is also in my combo, can help. With kidney blood work from time to time for safety! My ability to lose weight probably stems from both Metformin and Vanilla. I think I would be really really fat otherwise.

It really is working. I have lost almost 3kg (6,6lbs) in 5 weeks. Before that I was gaining weight. Of course I do watch what I eat, but before vanilla I couldn't. I can't really tell anyone, because they will probably think I am crazy. I just tell them that I eat less. It is their loss. Not sure if this works for everybody, but I don't think I am a huge exception either.
