Just a traditional "what are you reading at the moment" thread..

For me. "StarDust" by Neil Gaiman. LOVING it.. pure and total escapism, about as far as you can escape. faeries, witches, evil lords, love.. *g* Its great!

Hey, I'm reading faeries, wizards, etc, too!

Jim Butcher's "Dresden Files" novels. They're great fun -- so much fun that, when I discovered that there was one last novel in paperback, I had to drag my poor, long-suffering husband out to buy it, middle of the night. He's a good man. (Proof: he puts up with me...) They're just great fun.

Next, sadly, I'll be reading "Reviving Ophelia." It's Serious. I won't go on.

But then, I have a bunch of potato chip books -- murder mysteries, mostly. Some Tony Hillerman, some Kathy Reichs, and a couple of Stephen Whites. All fun.

One day, we'll have to build an island, and we can pool our books -- with Scratchpad, of course -- and just read all day...

Ah... Dreams...

I've just finished "Hope Against Hope" and I need to find another non-fiction book.

Kapuscinski said somewhere that the taste for nonfiction has come about because we want to escape the fabrications of public life.

Maybe Inga Clendinnen's "Aztecs. An Interpretation"?

Now she's an Australian writer I like.

My son and I are relistening to all the Harry Potters before the new one comes out. We've agreed that reading them was fun, but the guy who reads them adds a bit something extra.

I'm on Jonathan Kellerman's lateset, "Obsession" but again, am falling short on concentration.

I think maybe I should reread some of my favorite children's books instead.

Who reads the Harry Potter books over the sea? Over here is it is a guy called Stephen Fry, who has bi-polar disorder, and has been very open about it, doing alot of work to reduce stigma around mental illness.. he also hosts one of my fave tV shows, a panel quiz type thing with comedians called "QI". His accent is ~very~ "English" if you know what I mean.

I *love* Steven Fry. I remember when he ran away to France during a crisis. I was so worried for him. Plus he's forever twinned with Hugh Laurie in my head.

I'm in the middle of a Charles Bukowski book, "The Captain Is Out to Lunch and The Sailors Have Taken Over the Ship". It's illustrated by Robert Crumb, another favourite of mine.

One of the funniest, sweetest things I ever read of his was in a book of essays about Peter Cook, "Something Like Fire." There was just something in it, in his discussion of alcohol, in his little anecdotes about Peter Cook's effect on those around him, that touched my heart -- while making me choke with laughter.

I, too, am a Stephen Fry fan. LOVED him in "Cold Comfort Farm," which is also one of my all time favorite books. (Although it's not a great book, somehow I really enjoy it.)

Oh, yeah, lest I forget -- I am also a NikkiT fan. And need to get my email written and sent off to you...

Jim Dale reads it here. I honestly hadn't realized they used different readers.

Our favorite reader, though, is Tim Curry in the Lemony Snicket books. My son wants to see what else he reads.

My son is actually excited about a book he's reading at school!!! Now that's amazing. He usually just tolerates them and runs off to read his favorite science fiction. It's called "The Lightning Thief" and is apparently one of three books. He wants all of them at home.

I'm reading a book about the history of dracula and 3 generations of historians who are tracing the story under peril of being attacked by the undead themselves.

It would appeal to those folks who thought that the DaVinci Code was a little too fluffy and "neat".

"The Historian"

Llrrrrrrrrp

p.s. my T told me I shouldn't read it before bed. hence I only read it when I'm anti-anxious I've been reading it for about 5 mos now. ridiculous, huh?

I finished the last Dresden Files book in paperback! OH NO!!! The most recent came out in hardback in April 2007 -- so it will be a while before I get my paws on it! How will I survive?

So, now I'm reading "Deadly Decisions," by Kathy Reichs. Next will be "The Body Never Lies," by Alice Miller, or something else that escapes me.

Actually, I'm hoping when I finish this, I can maybe get through my stacks of magazines. I've got a stack of things like SciAm, and Discover, which usually go pretty fast -- they're pretty fluffy -- but both New Scientist and Science are weekly. That means I have a huge stack of them, and they both take a bit more to get through. Especially Science, where one article can take as long as an entire issue of some other magazines...

But I've also got some other mysteries, and so on. And an order coming in from Amazon: a book recommended by my T, "Children of the Self-Absorbed," and "Rethinking Thin" because I saw the author on The Colbert Report. Maybe I'll get to them, before MORE books enter this domicile!

Now reading "The Damned Utd" A novel based on true events type thing.. About a month in the life of a ENglish football manager.. Brian Clough.. Guess you'd have to be into football, and be a Vrian Clough fan to enjoy it. Its OK. Nothing great, but not so bad either.
