wrote "Romulus My Father", which is an account of his childhood in central Victoria. He now teaches ethics and stuff like that overseas. It is a particularly interesting book, characterised by moral seriousness without solemnity. What constitutes goodness, stuff like that.
He comes back to Australia all the time and writes decent articles in the better papers.
He has given two prizes to the school he attended. One for academic excellence, and one for kindness. It is typical that he worries that the prize may be corrupting.
The book is being made into a film, but it won't be a big thing worldwide, I wouldn't think.
Anyway, he's an Australian writer I like.
