I Hate the Junior High School Years!

Posted by vines123456 on May 13, 2005, at 18:59:12

I will make this as short as possible. My daughter is 14 and is in the 8th grade. She is not athletic and the only interest she has is in drawing and her friends. Her room is painted dark purple and black. She does not let anyone in the family "in her world". Her grades are not good even though her teacher's say the is very smart when she wants to be. Apparently it "cool" to be dumb. She is a GOTHIC WANT TO BE and she knows her father and I are against this. Her teachers say her problem is the kids she hangs out with at school. We do have an appointment at a behavior clinic becuase I feel if she continues in this path her high school years will be a a desaster! We are not telling her about this until school is out. My question to anyone out there is, how do you make a teenager care? We did not have this problem with our older daughter.

I understand it must hurt that she is shutting you out. Maybe you could talk to her about it? Maybe you could havea family movie night.

What's wrong with being a goth though? And I think purple and black look nice together. Why are you concerned about this part?

Maybe she is going through a phase with the whole acting dumb, not answering questions thing? I don't know your daughter though. I'm sorry she is making you worry. I think it's good you made an appt. at the clinic. good luck!

All the best,
