He has beautiful blue eyes and the most adorable face and I have been told so many times that he is going to break some hearts. He really is a good looking kid and part of his good looks are his ears that stick out a little.
2 nights ago I saw some white stuff behind his ears and on getting a closer look, saw that he had tried to stick his ears back with chewing gum. A kid at school had teased him.
I didn't make too much of a fuss out of it so as not to embarrass him but I had to leave the room quickly because I couldn't hold back the tears.
And I really feel sad that he would do something like that. If it hurt me, what must the poor child be feeling?

Oh, that's so sad and sort of sweet, too. Bittersweet, I mean. He tried to solve his problem.
I'm so sorry. It is heartbreaking. Please give him a hug for me. (you don't have to tell him it's from me) ;)
and a hug to you, too, for being such a sensitive mommy. ((((sal0805)))

Thanks gg - yes - it is bittersweet - I smile about it now, even though it's through heartache.

I always wish I could protect my son from that sort of thing that is soooo common among children. I remember it with pain from my own youth, and I would do anything to help him avoid it.
Your sweet son. Give him an extra hug for me too.

My oldest brother had a bad problem with stickky-out ears that he'd be teased about unmercifully. Eventually, when he was older and mostly finished growing, he had a procedure that shortened the cartiledge behind the ears so they wouldn't stick out again. It completely changed his outlook and character, Became more outgoing and clever. When my neice was born with the same ears, they had the surgery done when she was 2 or so. to spare her the same treatment her dad had,
I just kep my hair longer around the ears no matter what,

I identify. To this day - I cannot sleep if my ear folds on the pillow and nobody - not husband, child, or dog, is allowed to play with my ears, especially if it means bending them in the opposite direction.
I have always had this 'thing' that if they (ears) are bent in a direction they were not designed to go in - they will STAY THAT WAY!
Sad --- but true

When I was young I was picked on a lot because I had large ears that stuck out. To this day I do not where my hair behind my ears. I did not wet my hair if we were swimming. Your son will get to the place where he knows his self worth is bigger than ears that stick out. YOu sound like a wonderful mother so you will help him overcome this problem. It sounds like he has a good support system with you. I did not have that.
Your friend,
Lynn
