I was wondering what people of faith thought of the new TV show, "Joan of Arcadia." It's on CBS Friday nights.
It's about a teenage girl who's sort of lazy and unfocused. God appears to her in various human forms and gives her assignments that often make no sense at first but end up helping someone somehow. God tells her to respect her teachers and avoid drugs, but the show manages not to get too preachy or treacly. It's not prudish.
Joan keeps her visits from God a secret in part because her vice principal told her she'd be put on Thorazine if she said God talks to her!
I wondered how actual believers (I'm not, BTW) felt about it.
(I'm assuming posters will actually have *seen* the show...)

I like the show a lot. What bothers me most though is sometimes she sort of "cops an attitude" as it were with God by rolling her eyes and using a sarcastic tone of voice. This freaks me out and I feel a little uncomfortable when it happens. I mean I know the person is in the guise of a hairdresser or something, but come on, he is God! Show some respect, Joan!

I love this show. I am a serious christian...at least I think I am!!! But I love how down to earth it is...and I personally know God can and does show up in all sorts of ways...not just at church or at bible studies. good luck.
This is the end of the thread.
