I am not a christian or any religion for that matter, but sometimes I get afraid of what will happen after death and spending eternity in hell would really kinda suck butt

If you're not a Christian or of any religion what makes you think there is a hell?
Hell is having a complete knowledge of what you "might" have had. It is "if only" multiplied to the zillionth time. It is regrets and darkness. It is the absense of God and light. It is mental anguish, on your own, with no support or love from anyone. Love cannot exist in hell. Why would anyone want to go there? But don't worry, it isn't all that easy to get there. You have a loving God who will give you every opportunity to prove yourself worthy of heaven. Just don't shaft Him. Take Him on and be His pal for awhile, and see. There is no need to fear Hell, until you know what Heaven is. Faith will get you farther in life than fear. Trust me, it's true.

I don't really believe in heaven or hell. I think God's gift to us is this world and this life. But if there is a heaven and hell, I suspect I won't be going to heaven. But I'm not really afraid of where I'll be going. I trust God with all my heart and mind to be merciful as well as just.

I have heard of a job in the Upledger (Sp?)Clinic where there is a person who holds and rocks people who feel estranged. I just thought it was such a sweet, kind and healing thing to do and to have done.
Love can fill the void where fear resides.
I think kindness is saintly.

thanx for being so nice, I am sorry for being a stiff I just have alot of mental issues and anger issues, but you are tooo nice wayy too nice, sometimes being to nice can lead others to hurt your feelings.

***I have worked for years on becoming myself. That may sound funny but, I was traumatized all my childhood and carried this pain and suffering all my life. Now with the help of years of EMDR and a good therapist I am finally being released from old painful ways of being, communicating and interacting. My heart is full of love and caring for others who are suffering with pain of any sort. Yes people can be unkind. Yes I do get hurt by it. But I'm not going to let that stop the caring, kindness I feel for people on this board who ask for help and understanding.
I have always been an open person.
Now I can fully love and be loved.

I'm new here, and this thread goes back a ways, but I wanted to recommend a book that I found extremely healing. I span the Pre- and Post-Vatican II chasm in the Catholic world, and the Catholic culture of my youth was extremely punitive and filled with abject terror of Hell. It left its mark on me, and I've been decades getting over it, especially having seen my mother basically die of despair over personal issues that conflicted with Catholic teachings.
I'm still not quite out of the woods, but if anyone else still has a case of Hell-itis, definitely get this book:
GOOD GOATS: Healing Our Image of God
by Dennis Linn, Sheila Fabricant-Linn, and Matthew Linn
Paulist Press, 1994You can get it on Amazon. It presents a very clear and simple method for changing our image of God from the Fearsome Punisher to the Greatest Lover, along with a detailed explanation of why we (as Catholics or whoever!) can believe this, and nay, *count* on it.
The book is short. You can read it in an hour or two, and it brought me to tears more than once. (It still does, each time I read it.)
I have studied the whole issue of Hell and Divine punishment for many years, and if there's any interest in continuing this thread, I can lay out other healing insights that I've discovered.
This is my first post, BTW, so if I botch something do let me know, and accept my apologies in advance!
