I have always been taught that true science is a proof for true religion, and never to fear it, so therefore, I assumed all religions believed the same. A child often assumes that if something is true, everyone should believe it. I'm still of the opinion that there shouldn't be a conflict between the two.
Is there any truth in the book "Angels and Demons"? It's a pretty fantastic story if you ask me. I'm sure that no true believer would suppress science intentionally, otherwise he wouldn't be a true believer, would he?
Some assumptions we have prove right and some don't. Have you ever been shocked into a realization that one of yours was wrong? I guess this is mine.

After engaging in somewhat of a discussion about science and religion on another forum I have learned that most people do not connect the two at all. I find that very strange. True principles of science do not in any way conflict with true principles of religion.

That's my take on it too. The more I learn of science, the deeper my belief in God.

I agree. I see science as just one portal through which to understand God... one of the many facets of Him.
I see art the same way...
Ditto with psychology...
I also "see" God through relationships with people...
I also "see" Him in my daily circumstances -- He shows up in many guises... if I'm tuned in to Him - otherwise, I miss His messages.
Dinah - I recall a beautiful post you made - maybe over a year ago - in which you talked about "seeing God" in the majesty of creation - in the order of the universe, the planets, the incredible complexities and beauties of everything working together in precision. I recall you stating it in such a profound way.
It was poetic, really... is it possible to find that, and to repost it? It really seems to resonate with this particular thread.

It really has a lot to do with the way I present God to my son.
I'm also planning to look into that book you recommended. I haven't immersed myself in theology for a while now.

I'd love to discuss "A New Kind of Christian" here, once you've read it... I could hardly put it down.
I then devoured the two sequels. Let me tell you, this guy is making waves in the faith community -- and LOTS of controversy!
I found out that his church is only 45 minutes north of me... AND one of his staff members is a former friend (his wife sang at our wedding 18 years ago)... he came to visit today, and to invite us to attend... very cool, nontraditional service.
During communion, there are "stations" you can visit -- one to make an offering, another to partake in the wine and bread, another where you can sit on couches and talk to folks who will pray for your concerns (confidential and private!), a prayer labyrinth, and a station where you can doodle, draw or write with crayon on a big poster... (grafitti!).
Not what I grew up with...
The whole modern-emerging-into-post-modern matrix is fascinating to me...
... a wonderful and yet challenging time to be alive!
I can't help recalling how the medieval folks burned the "forward thinkers" of THAT era (i.e., "the world is round") at the stake!
Anywho, if it captures your attention, bring it up here as a thread... I'm curious about your reaction!
