some of nastiest people have been in church!

Posted by rnny on February 21, 2010, at 18:16:56

I have gone to numerous churches looking for "fellowship" with the others and have found some of the meanest, nastiest people in churches. Very selfish people too. I just wanted to get that off my chest. If you go to church aren't saying you are mean or nasty or your church is. But I have been emotionally brushed off or even ignored by many in churches and the reason I went was to learn about God and fellowship with others. I am shocked at the level of selfishness in some churches and I have seen alot of it because I have been shopping around. I could give details and then you would "understand" perhaps, but it would take too long. Just trust me I have some shocking stories of behavior of people in churches. Stories of not caring, not showing God's love, that kind of thing.

Please be sensitive to the feelings of others (such as those who go to church). I appreciate your disclaimer, but even better, IMO, would be using I-statements.

But please don't take this personally, this doesn't mean I don't like you or think you're a bad person, and I'm sorry if this hurts you.

More information about posting policies and tips on alternative ways to express oneself, including a link to a nice post by Dinah on I-statements, are in the FAQ:

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#civil
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#enforce

Follow-ups regarding these issues should be redirected to Psycho-Babble Administration. They, as well as replies to the above post, should of course themselves be civil.

Thanks,

Bob

Let me therefore repeat (to alleviate my bile), the title of a Christianist book

"You Need More Money! Discover God's Amazing Financial Plan for Your Life".

Well, there you are.
Marx said that religion was the opiate of the masses, the heart of a heartless society (or something like that) and that was in 1850, downhill quite a bit since then.

rnny...I agree with you.

Unfortunately, going to church does not make someone a true servant of The Lord Jesus.

Let me hasten to add that I DO BELIEVE God wants us to go to a Bible believing local church that preaches and PRACTICES the Gospel.

If you will notice in my post...I talked only about having a personal, real, relationship with our Creator. his in spite of the fact that I have been a preacher for over 25 years.

In the end...it is our personal pursuit of The One True God and His plan for our life that is of eternal importance.

I am very sorry you have been hurt by "church people"....we probabley all have horror stories of human cruelty....even at church.

It shouldnt be,,,,but it is a reality.
Dont let that stop you from finding another church and worshipping together with like minded ( although imperfect) fellow believers.

It has really shocked and appaled me. I am Christian so feel I can talk about churches and wow, I can't believe some of the behavior I have seen. completely the opposite of what Christ taught. was in a bible study about how to minister to one another. a very large bible study. during said study (not at the study but around the time of it) i slipped and got a bad concussion. i live alone and was bed ridden for two weeks after getting out of the emergency room. bed riden! i contacted the head of the bible study who lives around the corner from me said she said she was too busy to come see me!!!!!!!!!! one other person called and i said i could use a visit and the person never came and i heard nothing from anyone else in the large study. as a member of the study i would have expected the leader to go back to the group and inform them someone in the group had been injured and needed help. didn't happen.....and wow, I was really hurt deep down inside. considered the group a group of 'new friends' i was hoping to get to know. never went back needless to say. but couldn't believe the head of the bible study actually saying she was too busy to come visit me.

Inexcusable....sorry this happened to you.

Sometime when I similiar to you...I have found great comforth in the following verse:

1 Samuel 30:6 KJV
And David was greatly distressed ; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved , every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.

Sometime we must also "encourage ourselves in The Lord"
