1200 dead in Falluja.....

Posted by Jai Narayan on November 15, 2004, at 19:51:09

I raise my head to keen.
I pull at my hair.
My eyes are dry but burning.
I am so sad.
I see a photos of the tanks riding down the bombed out street in the sunshine in Falluja. It looks like a street in my town but all the wires are down, and there are huge tank guns lowered.
I can see the blue sky....
we saw that same sky in my little town.
I am sure I didn't listen to the sound of bombs exploding last night. I didn't hear the sound of bombs all week.
No bloated bodies in my street.
Where are their children?
How will we save these children?
I feel destroyed and I am safe in my house very far away from the violence and death.
My tax dollars are funding this.
I wish I had some control to decide where my tax dollars are to be spent.
I would fund: health care for all, child care, everyone would have a place to live, enough food, I would invest in our planet energy future....
but it's not in my control.
my money is not mine to direct.
I make it, I work the hours and then someone else decides where it will go.
I feel like I am in the grasp of an every tightening fist.

I raise my head to keen.
I pull at my hair.
My eyes are dry but burning.
I am so sad.

I've never felt so powerless before. Is this how the public felt during Viet Nam? They aren't even showing us the entire horror of this war, just what the media censors are allowing John Q Public to see; and that is bad enough.
I don't understand why there is not a vocal outrage against all this destruction. I feel that if I piped up with my concerns I'd be branded as unpatriotic, especially considering I've lived in the US off and on since 1983 and have not persued my citizenship.

**Yes, yes yes....

***now that's a frightening thought. unpatriotic....well that's how the Nazi's got to do their worst.
Our country is founded on speaking out...and revolution. the famous tea party?
It does seem to take forever for people to get mobilized.
I know there are many people who are just shocked that Bush is going to be the president again.
but what I say is don't be sad: get mad!
This is a call to us all to sit up and pay attention.
I am ready to do this.
I am mad as h*ll and I'm not going.....oh goodness I can't ever spell out h*ll on this site....
I am embarassed.
Jai

Please respect the views of others and be sensitive to their feelings.

If you or others have questions about this or about posting policies in general, or are interested in alternative ways of expressing yourself, please see the FAQ:

Follow-ups regarding these issues should be redirected to Psycho-Babble Administration. They, as well as replies to the above post, should of course themselves be civil.

Thanks,

Many are shocked that Bush is president,
But I guess many more Americans would have been shocked if Kerry had gotten in.

War makes me feel sick.
I cannot believe that I am lucky enough to live in a country
With food
And shelter
And neuroses.
Where I do not have to fight for my life
Or live in terror from military forces.

I feel so lucky I live in a country
Where (although there are problems) we attempt to honour the Treaty of Waitangi
Where we believe that everyone has the right to food and shelter (and welfare).
Where the public health system is free and adequate.
Where we offer humanitarian aid instead of troops to assist the destruction.

War games
Power
Take our democracy (whether you like it or not)

I can't believe that we live in a society that funds academics and the arts.

German civilisation produced some of the greatest intellectual and artistic achievements
Right before Hitler.
Humankind overreaching itself.
It makes me feel sad
And sick
And lucky.

Wittgenstein wrote the "Tractatus" while he fought in the trenches.
While he hoped for death.
The crystaline purity of logic
The ultimate contrast
To the brutality and gore
That surrounded him.

The nearness of death brings us closer to life.
That is the only positive thing I can take from this.

sorry, I thought I was being so careful.

The nearness of death brings us closer to life.

The nearness of death brings us closer to life.
I find that very liberating.
THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Just a simple phrase that changes my whole point of view today.

And I guess that's what it's all about.
You have helped me immensely.
