Cure for chapped lips?

Posted by Wildflower on August 23, 2004, at 15:37:34

Mine are beyond chapped (probably the worst they've ever been). Any quick fixes? I've been trying to coat them with Blistex and other lip balms but nothing seems to be working.

THIS IS NOT AN AD! The Body Shop has a product called Lip Scuff that you put on like lipstick and rub it in with your fingers, then rinse off. It tastes like toothpaste. It will take off dead skin from tender lips, and soften the skin left behind. I would not use Blistex on them - it must be petroleum based because it doesn't work! Best if you use a balm that's based on shea butter. Any health food store would have it.

I swear by Carmex. It will heal my lips in a day.

i learnt this trick from cosmo:
after you wash your face, and your lips are still soft from the water, rub all the dead skin off with a rough towel or paper towel.
moisturize with something that does not have petroleum gelly in it.
then, whenever you feel that you are about to lick your lips (this is a big cause of chapped lips) instead of licking them, press your lips together. keep your lips dry.
at night, repeat.
in my experience, it is best to do as little as possible to them. also, if i use chapstick or anything like that (balm or anything) i get chapped lips right away.
peace.
