Hi KaraS,
About a month or so ago, we had a discussion here about those fancy French sunscreens that contain Mexoryl, the ingredient that is not yet approved for use in the United States. Well, recently I had an opportunity to try two different forms of Anthelios Sunscreen, made by Roche-Posay. Usually I swim indoors, but a friend invited me to the outdoor pool at her club and I used some of her sunscreen. One of them was Anthelios W, Gel Special Sport Sunblock Gel, SPF 30. It said it was "non-oily" on the tube, but it felt oily, sticky and tacky to me. The other one I tried was Anthelios XL, Total Block Lotion for Sun reactive skin, SPF 60+. This also felt sticky and tacky to me. Both felt uncomfortable, and if I hadn't been swimming outdoors, I probably wouldn't have wanted to use them; however, both were very effective at blocking out the sun. Usually, with other sunscreens or blocks, I end up with at least a slight burn and/or freckling. With the Anthelios formulas, my skin was as pale after swimming as it was before, so it does seem to work. It's just feels uncomfortable, and it looks shiny and greasy, even if it doesn't have oil in it. Just thought I'd let you know about that. If I ever try any of the others, I'll post to you.

Thanks, sb. So the Anthelios is a really good sunscreen for serious all over protection but not an everyday one that would be easy on the pores of the face.I tried the Coppertone for faces SPF30. Usually the "for face" kinds are just the same as the regular stuff but in a smaller container and for a higher price. This one had a lot of the same ingredients but it's supposed to be water resistant rather than waterproof so maybe there is enough difference. Anyway, I was really pleasantly surprised. It's not greasy at all. It quickly sinks into the skin. In fact, I found myself wishing that it had a little more oil to it. (That never happens with me and sunscreen.) I had read somewhere that it can sting when it goes on but I didn't find that to be the case at all. It may be reformulated since I read that or possibly I might get that result if I were exfoliating. I'll have to check that out in the future. At any rate, this is so much better than all of the rest of the usual drugstore fare. I'd definitely recommend it.
(If you decide to try it, let me know what you think.)

P.S. Also no horrible scent or allergic reactions.

Hi Kara. Yes, that's a perfect description of the forms of Anthelios that I tried. There are probably other formulations that I'm unaware of, and they might be easier on the pores. If I hear about those, I'll let you know. Thanks very much for telling me about the Coppertone for faces. I will look for some to add to my collection! I use sunscreens and blocks year 'round, so I don't have to worry about them going to waste, and if they are too oily for my face, I can use them on my arms and hands.

Same with me. Problem is too many tubes for the arms and hands and not enough for the face! Let me know what you think of the Coppertone if you try it.Take care,
Kara
